Over twenty visitors from Freiburg the town in Germany’s Black Forest met at the Guildhall to be welcomed by the Mayor, Cllr Jenny Jordan, before being taken on a guided tour of the town by official guide and German speaker, Pauline Surrey.
It is now thirty three years since the twinning arrangement between Guildford and Freiburg was drawn up.
Over the weekend the Freiburg group will follow a busy and comprehensive schedule to see all that Guildford has to offer. The party will terminate their visit with a farewell dinner on Monday evening at The Withies, a traditional old English pub in Compton.
There is a Guildford visit planned to Freiberg in early July and there are still seats available for anyone wishing to join the party. Please click here to view details.

Next week, the Vivace Chorus is heading to Freiburg to sing in the town, along with performing concerts in Strasbourg and Heidelburg. The Chorus will be guests at a reception at the Rathaus in Frieburg, hosted by the Mayor, and members of the Freiburg Bach Chor are hopefully coming back to Guildford in November to sing in Britten’s War Requium at Guildford Cathedral.
It’s great to see that this twinning is still bringing people from both towns together!

Yes, this twinning goes from strength to strength – unlike the first twinning Guildford formed with a French Town in 1953.

It is good to hear from Gil Perkins that the Vivace Chorus is singing in Freiburg again, as they have many times before…
