‘Guildford Green Day’ Announced

The borough council is planning a Guildford Green Day “to celebrate, learn and be part of a Greener Guildford”.

It will be held on Sunday, 9 June 2024, from 11 am to 4pm. the initiative is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. and according to a GBC statement is “a day to celebrate, learn and be part of a Greener Guildford”.

Activities will include:

  • Learning how to do more to tackle climate change
  • Talks from world-class researchers from University of Surrey
  • Finding out more about recycling through fun games
  • Meeting the team from Zero Carbon Guildford
  • Discovering inner performer skills with circus skill workshops
  • Learning about recycling with a friendly furry recycling champion
  • Receiving tips on how to improve a home’s insulation
  • Browsing through a selection of plant-based artisan market stalls offering ethically sourced goods.

Lead councillor for Environmental Services, George Potter said: “I’m delighted that we’re supporting the national Big Green Week in Guildford. It’s so important that we all do our bit to raise awareness of climate change issues and environmental concerns.

“Visitors to this free family day will have a chance to learn more about making Guildford greener. Find out about climate change initiatives, waste and recycling and try a variety of vegan food. Guildford Green Day aims to help visitors understand how their contribution will make Guildford a more sustainable place.”

Catherine Houston

Lead councillor for Commercial Services, Catherine Houston adds: “Guildford Borough Council is coordinating this free, fun and informative event. Dozens of local providers, traders and community organisations will be taking part. This great event will combine environmental, education and awareness activities. We would love as many people as possible to come along and get involved with the free activities on offer”.

The High Street and Tunsgate will be shut (7.00am-6.30pm) for the event but all car parks will be open as normal.
