The Guildford Institute reports that it is delighted to have been awarded a substantial grant by the Garfield Weston Foundation.
The £20,000 grant makes a valuable contribution to the work that is currently under way at the Guildford Institute to install a lift, a new wider staircase and fully accessible toilets, making it and its many educational and cultural activities truly accessible to all for the first time in its 178-year history.
The installation of this new circulation core is the first step in a programme of works which are to be undertaken as and when funding allows over the next few years and which will bring the interior of the institute’s Grade II listed building into the 21st century.
The Garfield Weston Foundation is a family-founded, grant-making trust which has been supporting charities across the UK for over 50 years.
Mike Adams, chairman of the institute’s board of trustees, said: “We really are very pleased to have received this endorsement for our plans from such an experienced and respected grant-maker as the Garfield Weston Foundation. So far the building works are going well and this new grant towards the lift installation means we will be able to start all the sooner on the next stage, which is to locate our staff and reception volunteers at the heart of the new circulation core.”
Members of the public are welcome to go and see details of the building redesign plans at the Guildford Institute which is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturdays from 120am to 2pm.
