The Guildford Institute is delighted to have been awarded a substantial grant from the Awards for All programme of the Big Lottery Fund.
The £9,700 grant has enabled the institute to create a wonderful new space for community use by integrating what was the former staff office into its main Assembly Room, making a light, airy and spacious room with windows over both Ward Street and North Street.
This improvement to the institute’s facilities follows the recent installation of a lift and new staircase, which have transformed access to the building. These, together with accessible toilets and the new centrally-sited staff office, make the institute’s grade II listed building much more welcoming and user-friendly.
The chairman of the Guildford Institute, Mike Adams, said: “Thanks to the Big Lottery Fund, this newly enlarged room will enable us to provide our clubs and societies and other hirers with a space that accommodates more people than we have been able to open our doors to in the past. This is one more step on the way to completing our redevelopment plans, though we are still seeking the funds to refurbish other rooms in our building.”
Members of the public are welcome to visit the new-look Guildford Institute which is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.

How wonderful! And how well-deserved for this brilliant, independent Guildford institution!
