The Guildford Institute in Ward Street has launched a crowdfunding project to provide an accessible toilet in its new community and wellbeing centre on the ground floor.
The new centre will provide a space where people can come together to socialise, learn, and support one another.
The aim is to create a space that is welcoming and inclusive, offering a wide range of services and activities for people of all ages.
The ground floor conversion will provide six purpose-built, sound-proofed rooms for counsellors and therapists to work from.
There will be more than 20 professionals operating from the rooms, working with a wide range of psychological issues including depression, anxiety, bereavement, self-harm, trauma and abuse, among others. There will also be a new space for local groups and charities to meet.
Although the building work is progressing very well and the first phase of the conversion will be completed and ready to use in the next few weeks, the Guildford Institute does not have the funds to do any further work.
The crowdfund project is specifically to provide an accessible toilet in this part of the building.
The Guildford Institute’s business development officer, Lisa Taylor, said: “We believe that everyone, regardless of their abilities, deserves to have access to essential facilities and by ensuring that our community centre is equipped with an accessible toilet, we are sending a clear message that we value and respect all individuals in our community.
“Please do help us to make a difference! Every donation counts towards making our space more inclusive.”
