Guildford Lido – ready for the new season

Following a winter of essential renovations, Guildford Lido says it is ready to welcome swimmers of all ages from Friday (April 26) until September 15.

Whether swimmers are looking for a refreshing morning lane swim or some family time relaxing on the rolling landscaped lawns, Guildford Lido says it has something for everyone.

“We’re delighted to reopen Guildford Lido for its 91st season,” said Adam Smithson, Guildford Lido General Manager. “The recent maintenance work ensures the Lido continues to be a fantastic facility for the Guildford community. We can’t wait to see everyone back enjoying themselves in the pool.”

Guildford Lido underwent significant winter improvements with the aim of ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all visitors. Thorough repairs addressed historical leaks and provided time for contractors to repair and replace pipework and damaged tiles.

Also, for the younger visitors to the Lido, the old paddling pool has been transformed into a picnic and children’s play area. The work carried out guarantees, they say, a pristine pool for the season ahead.

Adam and the team are looking forward to showing off the refreshed facilities for the upcoming season including earlier morning lane swimming sessions.

Emma Beavis, Freedom Leisure’s Area Manager, which operates the Lido on behalf of Guildford Borough Council added: “We’re thrilled to kick off the Guildford Lido 2024 season with Swimathon 2024. Swimathon is a fantastic sponsored swimming event which, promotes fitness, fosters a fun community and allows you to contribute to a worthy cause while achieving a personal goal.”

Guildford Lido officially opened in June 1933 and quickly became a popular destination for locals and visitors alike, offering a refreshing escape during the summer months. It has retained its original 1930s charm and continues to be a vital part of Guildford’s recreational scene.

Today, Guildford Lido offers a 50-metre pool surrounded by parkland. It caters to all ages with dedicated lane swimming sessions, general swimming, and fun slides.
