The Guildford Lions Club has regrettably decided to cancel its popular fundraising Fireworks Fiesta this November due to the coronavirus pandemic restrictions on large outdoor events.
In a statement the club states: “In conjunction with Guildford Borough Council, Guildford Lions Club have been looking at how we could revamp our traditional November Fireworks Fiesta to comply with all Covid-19 guidelines.
“Our plan was to stage a half day, family friendly festival on Stoke Park providing a mix of live music, interactive children’s entertainment, all inside large, open-sided marquees, culminating with our traditional spectacular fireworks finale.
“As with all Guildford Lions events public safety is our top priority and all profits would be used to support our local community.
“We have been working closely with The Boileroom [music and arts venue], who are experienced in organising similar events in Guildford, and, despite the limited timescales, our plans were fast nearing completion when the government announced the updated advice for large outdoor events to ensure public safety.
“As a result, despite our best efforts, regrettably, our revamped fireworks event will not take place this year. However whilst down we are certainly not out!
“We would like to record our grateful thanks to both Guildford Borough Council and The Boileroom who have both been extremely positive and supportive in our review of the event.
“The good news is that both organisations remain keen to work with us to put on a family festival type event as soon as circumstances permit, so please watch this space for further updates.”
