Guildford Spectrum is celebrating after recent fundraising events have helped raise thousands of pounds for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
Representatives from BHF, the Deputy Mayor of Guildford, David Elms and Guildford MP Anne Milton all came to Spectrum to cheer on the staff and thank them for all their efforts.
The Freedom Leisure managed leisure complex has staged a number of fundraising events with more fundraising to come in December and into the new year including the recent Party in Pink – Zumbathon in October that raised £950 and a 12-hour spin-a-thon on Saturday, November 30, which raised a further £1,090.
On Saturday, December 14, the BHF Guildford & Godalming branch will be on hand during Snow White on Ice (pantomime) encouraging Spectrum’s customers to decorate ‘The Memory Tree’ with BHF hearts and stars.
Customers can write messages to loved ones including family members, pets or those members of the family for one reason or another can’t be with them for Christmas this year.
Other notable BHF fundraising will be seen on Friday, February 7, with the management and staff at Spectrum and other Freedom Leisure sites encouraging customers to “Ramp up the Red” and wear red while taking part in activities across the complex.
Freedom Leisure area manager Steve May said: “The BHF team are so great to work with. Nothing is too much trouble and we hope we can continue to do our bit to go some way to eradicating coronary heart disease – the UK’s number one killer.”
Shirley West, the chairman of the Guildford & Godalming branch of the BHF, added: “Since the launch of our partnership earlier this year we have been ever so pleased with the efforts of the Spectrum staff. Every penny is so gratefully received and we will be going all out to support them into the future with everything that is planned.”
Guildford Spectrum has also teamed up with the organisers of the 2014 Surrey Half-Marathon and the gym team are on hand with a ready made training programme for participants to make sure they achieve their personal best and raise money through sponsorship for BHF.
