The Guildford Sports Relief Mile, organised by students at the University of Surrey and sponsored by Sainsbury’s, was one of hundreds taking place across the country today (Sunday, March 23).

More than 1,500 runners could chose to run 1, 3 or 6 miles with friends or family in the fantastic spring weather. Money was raised by entry fees: £6 for adults, £3 for children and £15 for a family of four, as well as sponsorship.

As usual, the event attracted a variety of costumes and even some different modes of transport. One pair of runners ran as if in a three legged race! Stewards were on hand to direct the runners and issue water. First aiders were there, just in case, and a dance aerobics instructor led groups in warm up exercises to music.

The money raised will be used to fund Sports Relief projects at home and abroad.
