Guildford Table Tennis League Godalming A continued their demolition of the opposition in their quest for a third consecutive Premier title.
Indeed, they took out College Hill 10-0. Well done to Andy Smith, Adam Laws and Rory Scott.
John Callcut continued his fine form for Merrow B with three singles against Ash in a 7-3 win.
Richard Seymour got back to his winning ways after a poor start taking three for Merrow A against Challoner.
A feature was the display of Robert Lemon, a considerable star from the past who after a long lay off has still to recapture his superb form as a member of the title winning Challoner sides of the past. He scored three points including a thrilling 9 in the fifth against Jason Tendler.
In Division Three Bramley D got off to a fine start with an 8-2 victory over Aftermath D. Angela Coventry and ‘New Boy’ Steve Mullins starred.
Godalming K scored a great 9-1 win against a good Aftermath D side, to lift them to third place.
Skipper Charley Penny led the charge together with James Scott and Rob Chatwin.
A team which takes the eye in this division is the Merrow F outfit. They now top the table. Watch this space as Guojian Hao, Guangmo Zhu and Anil Gadage go for glory.
They were, however, pushed in their latest encounter, a 6-4 win, against a young Godalming M side. Nathan Tse, James Scott and Owain Osmond Gillam. Interestingly, in a statistical oddity, nine of the 10 matches went to four sets.
Division Two saw a “battle royal” between pacesetters Ash B and College Hill D. James Wyncoll’s 100% singles record went to Robert Klusch who in turn lost to Andy Barnard. Result 6-4 to Ash.
An interesting contest was that between Bramley A and Emmanuel. 7-3 was the outcome in favour of Bramley, although Shaun Robertson won three for the Church side including two five setters.
Division Four is particularly open this season. Woking C have only dropped one point so far from two, with their latest success a 9-1 win over Merrow J.
Although its early days, it’s nice to see Sue Holder, a wonderful supporter of local table tennis over the years, in action taking all three of her singles.
This Division is, of course, the starting point for many stars of the future and is a showcase for the Guildford Table Tennis Association’s coaching schemes.
The other aspect is, that it is a final playing arena for veterans who are able to pass on their experiences to the younger element.
This together with the ability to go out and still enjoy a good social game of Ping.
