The Guildford Table-Tennis League Premier Division featured a fine win by second in the table Godalming B over fourth placed Merrow B 8-2.
They now have an excellent chance of a one two with their A side having opened a 19-point lead over third placed Burymead.
Rob Pountney, Simon Vine and Charlie Cunningham are this season’s ‘class acts’.
Meanwhile College Hill eased their relegation situation with an 8-2 victory over Godalming C who are now in some trouble and facing the drop.
Graham Nutting starred in this one, ably backed up by Surrey Starlet Gabriela Lee and the ‘evergreen’ Phil Harrison.
Paul Shakespeare got a brace against Merrow A for Ash including a fine win over Jason Tendler.
Although it was a 7-3 loss overall, Ash picked up some very handy points and now look safe for another season in the top grade.
Lower down in the League Division Two saw winless bottom team, Godalming H, pick up four points against third placed College C in a cracking evening’s ping.
Georgi Ivaanov starred for the Guildford side with three singles including a 13 in the fifth set against Mike Caudrey.
It could have been worse for the Haslemere side as they won three matches which went to five sets.
In Division Three Merrow F put some pressure on leaders Bramley D with an 8-2 win over Challoner B. Guojian Hao and Ani Gadage got clean sheets.
Third placed Godalming L suffered a 9-1 reverse against middle of the table Bramley E, with David Philips and Gary Nicholson unbeaten in singles and doubles. Geraint Herbert replied with a single.
