In Week 10 the Guildford Junior League held Round 5 of the competition with Merrow Hawks stretching their lead at the top of the table to two points with a commanding 4-1 win over VM.
Jai Dhillon and Max Swindells took all four singles, including a win each against the previously unbeaten Vlad Cretu. Vlad teamed up with Thomas Bailey to put their team on the scoreboard with a 3-1 victory in the doubles.
The four players who made their debuts in the National Cadet League for Guildford faced each other in the GJL three days later in the match between the Thunderbolts and Merrow Demons and produced a truly entertaining encounter.
Dan Godsill (Merrow Demons) was the pick of the players with two solid 3-0 victories over Kyle and Anton Kepa, but it was his team mate Jack Liu who was involved in the most thrilling battles.
He just missed out 11-9 in the fifth against Anton but just edged out Kyle 11-8 in the fifth.
The Kepas combined to take the doubles – again 11-9 in the deciding end, but it was the Demons who were triumphant – 3-2 the final score.
At the other end of the table, EJJ and the Looters both won their first matches of the season 3-2. EJJ impressively defeated Farnborough Flames for whom Joe Sparkes won twice.
However, both Joss Beedie and Elliot Latham defeated Charlie Everingham and partnered each other to doubles victory.
The Looters achieved their victory against Ash and Alex. Aidan Crouch bagged a pair of singles victories against Ashley Minoo and Alex Evans. Sasha Dow made it 3 when he won a nailbiting encounter 11-7 in the decider against Ashley Minoo.
Alex reduced the arrears with a 3-0 win over Sasha and joined forces with Ashley to secure a 12-10 in the fifth victory in the doubles against Aidan and Quentin Pritchard.
Match scores:
Farnborough Flames 2 EJJ 3
The Thunderbolts 2 Merrow Demons 3
Merrow Hawks 4 VM 1
Ash & Alex 2 The Looters 3

In Week 11 in the Guildford Table Tennis League pride of place goes to Dave Wilson with his superb three against Bramley A, pace setters in Division Two.
The Aftermath ace was successful in two five setters, notwithstanding the village side still got a 6-4 result in their bid for the title, whilst Aftermath retained third spot. Second placed Ash B were also held 6-4 by Godalming G; James Wyncoll getting his accustomed three.
The Premier Division threw up some rather strange mixes of players and results.
Merrow A fielded two reserves against Burymead A and were suitably punished with a 7-3 reverse.
Only Tim Waller for the Shackleford side was a recognisable regular. Tim duly took advantage with a class display in his trio of victories.
Ash and College Hill in seventh and eighth position respectively clashed with a 6-4 win for the former. There were some very tight games the spoils being evenly distributed amongst the players.
Division Three and third placed Farnborough consolidated their position with a tidy performance against College Hill 8-2.
Eric Wong got an effortless maximum and is still unbeaten. David Phillips starred with all singles plus the doubles when Bramley E took out bottom placed Abinger B 6-4.
Newcomer Hugh Andrews was unsurpassed for Aftermath D when helping them to a draw with Godalming M in a middle of the table battle.
In the First Division odds on favourites Woking A defeated third placed Merrow D 10-0 literally blowing a strong village side away.
It was great to see Feifei Pei playing with such accomplished skill as she rides high in the averages.
Second placed Merrow E also won large, 8-2 against relegation haunted Godalming D. Steve Woodgate and Max Flint led the charge.
