Join in the fun! Volunteers are needed to help run the shop.

With labels such as Monsoon, Reiss, LK Bennett, Jigsaw, Coast, M&S, Hobbs, Ralph Lauren, Jane Norman, Abercrombie & Fitch, stock is frequently updated.

Ladies wear is balanced by a smaller collection of mens wear, an attractive selection of children’s wear from babies to young teens and a colourful collection of shoes and accessories: belts, bags, scarves, hats and jewellery.

A good selection of children’s books and DVDs, soft toys and toys and games for older children, other DVDs and books, home wares and ornaments, complete the collection.

On of the shop volunteers is Kay Hiatt. She says: “Goods are fairly priced and there is always a bargain to be had.

“Between serving customers, sorting and tidying, steaming clothes, chatting to customers, I always make time to browse and buy myself, and have had many compliments from friends on my fashionable and obviously expensive items that I really enjoy wearing (at a minimum cost to myself).

“Led by our new manager, Denise Stenning, the shop has been re-arranged to show off items and make them easily accessible for new and returning customers.

“After a successful career in retailing, Denise sees this new post as a way of her using her many skills to support the magnificent aims of Shooting Star Chase. Their support is free of charge to families and available 365 days a year.”

Shooting Star Chase cares for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families. It costs £9.5 million to provide services free of charge to families and the Guildford shop is the latest in a growing network across south west London and Surrey.

Its care service includes short breaks at two hospices (Shooting Star House in Hampton and Christopher’s in Guildford), Hospice at Home, day care, symptom management, end-of-life care, bereavement care and a comprehensive range of therapies and support groups for the whole family.
