Celebrate the start of Christmas this Thursday at Guildford’s official town centre Christmas lights switch-on.
Susie Blake, star of Aladdin at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre will join the Mayor of Guildford, Jennifer Jordan, and 96.4 Eagle radio’s Peter Gordon on the Guildhall balcony to light up the town at 7pm.
Organised by Guildford Borough Council and the Guildford Town Centre Management Group, this year’s celebrations will mark the start of late-night shopping in the town centre, which will run every Thursday evening until December 20.
Guildford will host a range of traditional Christmas activities and events on the day, including: a Christmas craft market on the Town Bridge and festive stalls in the High Street, entertainment and music from a variety of performers at 96.4 Eagle radio’s Busk for Trust in Friary Street, festive songs from musicians and choirs in the High Street, a mascots parade from 5pm, visits by Father Christmas and sponsored by Radisson Blu Edwardian, a balcony show featuring a range of guests from 6pm, reindeer sponsored by Elevate Guildford, a spectacular firework finale sponsored by White Lion Walk.
Shoppers can grab a bargain as stores across the town will offer an additional 10% discount on selected purchases on the day. Look out for the Guildford Star in participating shop windows and take advantage of the extended park and ride hours and travel into Guildford for a festive day out.
