Staff in the HMV store, located in the Friary, Guildford, heard the fate of the store, and their jobs, in a telephone call to the shop this morning.
The staff were delighted to be told that the Guildford branch of HMV was one of nearly 100 stores which had avoided the cut.
27 other stores had been announced as closing including the company’s flagship Oxford Street store in London.
This follows the sale of the chain to the Canadian company by administrators, KPMG, Sunrise Records.
HMV had gone into administration in December 2018 blaming a “tsunami of retail challenges, including business rate levels and the move to digital”.
