Five of Guildford’s Young Ambassadors have received £250 each towards their training from the Community Foundation for Surrey.

Junior international Taekwondo players Megan Davey and Jordan Green, junior international kayaker Miki Marciniak, Goldhawks Basketball Club founder Alex Samara, and junior national sprint hurdler Hope Sarti have been awarded the funding. The support will help fund travel costs, kit and clothing for their sports.

Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Gordon Jackson said: “We are delighted that five of our Young Ambassadors have been awarded these grants. The funding will help support them further in their training. The dedication and commitment of all our Young Ambassadors makes them a true inspiration to other young people.”

Leader of the council, Cllr Paul Spooner, commented: “Our Young Ambassadors scheme brings together motivated young people who are at the top of their game in business, sport, music and other activities or who go the extra mile in volunteering to support their local community.

“We are lucky to have such exceptional young people in the borough. These grants are well-deserved and will help our Young Ambassadors excel in their area of expertise”.

The Christim Beck Community Fund, a charitable fund held by the Community Foundation for Surrey, has provided the £1250 worth of grants to support Guildford Young Ambassadors with their training, travel, accommodation and equipment costs.

Laura Thurlow, Deputy Director of the Community Foundation for Surrey adds: “The Community Foundation for Surrey is delighted to be able to support the Guildford Young Ambassadors as they progress towards achieving their goals within their chosen fields. We wish them all the very best of success.”

Guildford Young Ambassadors launched in October 2013. The idea is to influence, motivate and inspire other young people in Guildford to fulfil their potential. Current ambassadors are all achieving great success in their sporting, business or community leadership roles and represent the borough at various youth, civic and community events.
