Have Your Say on Council’s ‘Love Where You Live’ Campaign

If you know of an area that is plagued with litter, please tell Guildford Borough Council..

Residents are being invited to nominate areas around the borough of Guildford that need a bit of extra loving care.

Cllr Nick Sutcliffe, Lead Councillor for Environmental Services said: “The nominations campaign, Love Where You Live, is a great way for people to get involved and let us know where they want us to use our resources.

“Any area can be nominated, whether it’s an overgrown alley or an unkempt grass area in a housing estate. If it is important to you, we will try to help. The nominations scheme has been running for over five years now and we find it is just a great way to listen to people and take action where it matters to them.”

What can be nominated?

Any area on or near a road within Guildford borough. The council has an extra nominations crew ready to carry out the work.  The crew can tackle litter picking, sweeping, weed clearance and small amounts of cutting back.

The Guildford Dragon News has noticed patches of graffiti on walls beside the towpath of the River Wey between the town centre and Woodbridge Meadows.

How to nominate?

Fill in a nominations form at www.guildford.gov.uk/nominations or call 01483 444499 to have a form sent to you. There is no limit to the number of nominations you can make. All nominations must be in by June 4.

What happens next?

All nominations will be prioritised and 50 will be selected for action. The top 50 nominations will be chosen according to the following criteria: footfall in the area, the benefit to local residents and the cost of the work to be undertaken.

The council states: “As far as possible we will try to ensure  a fair share of resources across the borough. A plan of action for the work to be done will be published on the council’s website. Nominations which fall outside of Guildford Borough Council’s remit will be passed to our partners.”

Some examples of places that need some TLC may be outside the remit of Guildford Borough Council. However, it is worthwhile making a nomination as the council will pass details on to its partners.

Love Where You Live Guildford aims to inspire, encourage and enable us to keep where we live, work and play the kind of place we really want it to be. Council’s staff are busy keeping Guildford clean, picking up litter, sweeping the streets, removing fly tipping, cleaning up dog fouling and removing graffiti, but need your help to focus on specific areas that you feel need attention.

Keep an eye out and you will see council employees with their vehicles regularly picking up litter, sweeping the streets, removing fly tipping, removing graffiti and so on.
