Regular Guildford High Street visitors will probably have spotted Dean Dyson, who hails from Winchester, busking. He can often be found opposite Marks & Spencer.
Dragon reader Fiona Curtis thought he deserved a bit more local publicity and wrote in to say: “Dean informs us, via Facebook, that one of the video’s, his rendition of Mad World, has now achieved more than one million views and another is now winging its way round the world and has over 400,000 hits.
“He is such a nice person as well as extremely talented, if you haven’t done so already, it would be great if your online paper could give him a bit of a break?” Well we are happy to.
One YouTube viewer commented: “With a voice like this it is a crime that he is not a household name, I was lucky enough to stumble across Dean when shopping in Guildford last week, it seems I am not the only one to be swept away by this mans amazing talent, 300k views in a few days and still growing, he is a gift to us all.”

There are some very talented buskers that visit Guildford.
Another is blues/rock guitarist and vocalist Rob Berry. You can check him out on Facebook and http://www.robberry.com. I have all of his albums!

Thanks Guildford Dragon for flagging this story. The combined views have now reached 2.3 million and Dean was given the opportunity to sing on Radio Surrey today, so things are looking up.

I’ll second Keith White’s comments about Rob Berry. I saw him last Saturday and also two years ago where I bought four of his CD’s on the back of that day’s performance. He kindly allowed me to play his music on an American/Australian server I DJ on.

Pain in the backside this chap inflicting his mournful dirge on the poor captive audience that is the Guildford shoppers.
It totally ruins many peoples shopping experience in an otherwise perfect English country town. Why can’t he take his dirge to another town like Aldershot or Woking?

I’m fed up with hearing this racket every time I go shopping. Please GBC, if we have to have buskers at least let them be ‘traditional’, without electric amplification, so those of us that don’t want to have to listen can walk away and not have the noise follow us all the way up the High Street.
