Spring Clean Starts Early in Surrey
As the cold sets in and we look forward to warmer days, preparations are already underway to keep Surrey safe and beautiful for residents and visitors alike. Over the coming months, our Roadside Rangers and Highway Customer Officers will be out in force, tidying and maintaining pathways, roadsides, and rural areas to improve the highway network.
You might notice our crews working along the roadsides with some impressive machinery, which allows us to clear areas quickly and efficiently. Using machines instead of hand tools helps keep traffic moving smoothly and minimises disruption to your journeys. It’s also a common practice used by farmers to manage large areas effectively.
In rural areas, our teams will focus on cutting back hedges and clearing growth that might obstruct pathways or encroach on road edges. While the freshly trimmed hedges might look a little rough or “jagged” at first, this method is designed to encourage healthier, thicker growth as the hedges fill out. Not only does this keep the paths clear, but it also benefits the environment: the trimmings are blown back into the hedgerows, creating ideal nesting spots and materials for local wildlife to make their homes.
The #SurreySpringClean is part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, scenic environment across the county. Whether you’re driving by or taking a stroll, feel free to give the teams a friendly wave as they work to keep Surrey beautiful. Let’s look forward to a season of blooming flowers, clear pathways, and thriving wildlife.
