Record number of road improvements completed this Summer

It’s been a busy summer for our highways teams with the biggest ever surfacing programme for Surrey completed and over 400,000 metres of road markings refreshed.

Surface dressing is a cost effective, environmentally friendly treatment which makes roads safer, smoother to travel on and prolongs their life by over ten years. Over 70 roads across Surrey were improved from June – August this year which also helps prevent potholes forming.

We’re also spending £2m this year to improve road markings across the county to make our roads safer and improve their visual appearance. 406,000 metres of line painting took place from April – September, up 292% from the same period last year.

These works involve refreshing white and yellow road markings on roads and parking bays across the county, with our busiest roads and those most in need of updating prioritised. This included major motorway junctions including the M25 J6 (Godstone), J8 (Reigate), J9 (Leatherhead) and M3 J1 (Sunbury Cross).
