The Julia Lampard Hair salon is set in an unexpected but lovely little leafy square in Sydenham Road, just off Tunsgate and Milkhouse Gate.
And Julia Lampard herself runs the pleasant and spacious salon with eight staff.
When you meet Julia, she is warm and welcoming. But there is no mistaking that she is a firm character, a business woman who is very much in charge of what she is doing. She knows her craft well having been in business for herself for over 28 years and having worked as a hairdresser in the United States and with Toni & Guy and 365 Salon before that.
They have only been in the current location for about two years now but it is busy and working out well. She showed me around the salon with great pride and pleasure. She currently caters for about 40 to 45 clients a day and she expects that to increase. But she is clear that it won’t compromise on the attention she gives to each of her customers. “We give lots of time to our clients, a full hour for a cut and blow dry which is more than most hairdressers.”
She has a very simple approach to her work: “I love looking after people. I want our clients to feel secure and welcome and to make their moment in the salon special.”
She sees training for herself and her staff as very important. “I invest a lot in my staff including training in the London Sassoon Academy.” she said. “Vidal Sassoon is the king of hairdressers.”
Julia’s salon is accredited with the Trade Mark Surrey Hills scheme which promotes businesses that have a high percentage of local provenance, consistent quality, environmental sustainability and support for the community and environment.
She is from a well known Guildford family which goes back generations in the town, and working with family and local businesses is something that is important to her. “We need to support local businesses and to work with companies that are caring for the environment.” As an example, she is changing her flower provider to a local company, Plantpassion. “They are fantastic.” Julia said. “And local as well.”
Apart from hair cutting, styling and beauty side of the business, the salon also provides a wig service. Julia has actually designed and patented a wig liner, The Julia Lampard Wig Lingerie, which she sells as part of the service.
Julia is the driving force in an enthusiastic team. “We have lovely clients and such a lovely mix of people coming here.” said Julia.
“Feedback from our clients is overwhelmingly positive.” she added.
And I can see why.

Very proud of my sister in what she has done for me, the family and the community, one of a kind.
