This weekend sees the Guildford Jazz Festival (October 20 to 22) hitting some high musical notes across town.
Highlights include the Simon Spillett Quartet who are playing at the Keep pub in Castle Street on Friday evening starting at 8pm.
Multi-award winning saxophonist Simon Spillett (BBC Jazz Awards, British Jazz Awards) will play at set of modern jazz, drawing on the music of Tubby Hayes.
His band includes pianist John Critchinson (long-time associate of Ronnie Scott), American bassist Tim Wells and drum icon Spike Wells.
On Saturday evening at the Keep the Jamie O’Donnell Quartet are playing. His late sister Lucy, shared a table at school with Julian Lennon, who took a picture home to his dad (John), who asked him: “What’s that?” Julian replied: “Lucy in the sky with diamonds.” The rest is history!
Singer Ruby Turner and Ronnie Scott’s Blues Explosion are at the Harbour Hotel on Friday starting at 7.15pm.
Other jazzers performing over the weekend at various venues including G Live include Joe Stilgoe, Matt Bianco, Matt Taylor, Sola Akingbola, and many more.
