About 30 jobs are expected to be axed as Guildford’s Royal Surrey County Hospital looks to cut costs.
Consultation is now taking place between the hospital and trade unions, along with employee representatives and directly-affected staff.
Proposals are to cut a total of 100 posts from April. The Royal Surrey’s chief executive Nick Moberly has said about 70 job cuts would be achieved by not filling vacancies, natural turnover, and releasing agency and bank staff.
However, despite that he added that there would be about 30 redundancies.
A statement from the hospital trust said: “The NHS continued to face tough times financially. Our staff are our biggest asset, but also our biggest cost, and we must explore how best to reduce our costs while continuing to provide quality safe healthcare.”
Mr Moberly added: “The vast majority of posts across the trust’s 3,100-strong workforce will be unaffected by the proposals.”
