Travel SMART in Westborough and Park Barn is an initiative designed to provide local people with more travel choices and help them cut carbon, calories and cost.

It aims to make it easier for people to travel sustainably and / or improve access to jobs and employment skills.

Travel SMART (as part of Surrey County Council) has allocated funding to this area to help local community groups and organisations develop projects which they believe meet those aims.

Attached Message PartThe Travel SMART Westborough Community Panel is made up of local representatives who know the area well and care about the area. They could be councillors, representatives of churches, community groups, schools, businesses or residents’ associations or any other resident with an interest in local issues.

The panel has two main roles. After the Travel SMART team has checked funding applications to make sure they are valid, the panel decides which groups receive cash for applications up to £3,000.

They also help plan the community events that are held each year where residents decide which projects that have applied for up to £15,000 get a share of the funding.

Panel members can be involved in submitting applications for funding, but they won’t be allowed to vote on any projects they are affiliated with.

The panel meets once every two months for about 90 minutes. Panel members would also help out at the community event one Saturday in the autumn.

If you’d like to join the Westborough panel email Becky Willson at becky.willson@surreycc.gov.uk explaining who you are, what group you represent (if any) and why you want to be involved.

The chairman has the final decision on membership of the panel.
