Jubilee Celebrations in Photographs – Updated

Here is a selection of Jubilee Party photos submitted to The Guildford Dragon. It obviously takes more than a bit of damp weather to stop Guildford celebrating…

New – Harvey Road

by Sue Davies

We held our party on the 3rd June and closed our road, Harvey Road (Pewley Hill end).  The party was attended by at least fifty people of all ages.  Due to the dismal weather we split the party between my house and the street, where some of the hardier residents sheltered under parasols.  We organised afternoon tea, with everyone bringing cakes and sandwiches, and we provided the tea.  We also organised an ice cream parlour which, in spite of the weather, was a surprise hit, with children and adults queueing for icecream with various toppings – including Jubilee sprinkles.  The children enjoyed running around the traffic free road.  The party was organised by myself – Sue Davies, Caroline Salmon and Heather Edwards.

To celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, White Lion Walk Shopping Centre in Guildford held their very own regal event for shoppers on Saturday 2nd June. With themed bunting, a free face painter and Union Jack flags being given away, it certainly created a patriotic atmosphere to add to the normal Saturday shopping trip.

There is still time if you want to send yours in.

We had a great street party over 800 guests attended between 2 and 11pm starting with a grand procession and culminating with rock music from Aim.

We barbecued 600 burgers and 250 Conisbee’s sausages and these were enjoyed with 18 salads donated by party goers.

The weather was brilliant, light rain for about 20 minutes – that’s all.
