Merrow Bowls Club, report by David Raison

On Saturday, June 10, Merrow welcomed Ewhurst to our green for a friendly of four rinks of triples.

On a lovely afternoon, the teams played their hearts out, resulting in a balanced result of two rinks each, but with Ewhurst taking the overall honours by 6 points, the score being Merrow 66, Ewhurst 72.

A special mention for Lesley Burburry, who played her first match for Merrow and came away with a  win on her rink, Well done, Lesley.

Castle Green Bowling Club, report by Colin Summerhayes

On Tuesday afternoon June 6, despite a close game on one of the rinks, Castle Green lost their Senior Men’s Tuesday Triple match at home verses Woodbridge Hill by 19 shots overall (24-43). Castle Green retained its fifth position in the Guildford-Woking League.

C Summerhayes (skip), P Plummer, L Briggs  9 – 27
R Williams (skip), J Reeves, J Phillips 15 – 16

On Wednesday evening June 7, Castle Green lost its home match against Westfield by 32-49 (-17).

Jill Bird (skip), Margaret Neville, Sue Secrett: 8-20
David Taylor (skip), Derek Redgwell, Tim Sampson: 7-14

On Saturday afternoon, June 10, we had a lovely afternoon out on the green at East Horsley. It was quite a close match. Castle Green won and lost by the same amount on two rinks, a nice balance, but went down a bit on the third, losing overall by 43-57 (-14).

On Sunday, June 11, Castle Green regained possession of the Millennium Trophy, thanks to a terrific performance, winning over Stoke Park by 89-73 (+16). It was a lovely summer’s afternoon, played in pleasant company and a friendly spirit of rivalry.
