Letter: Is This Park & Ride Really Necessary?

Park & Ride LetterFrom Bernard Parke

Hon Alderman

No doubt your readers have noticed the new direction signs which have recently been erected advising motorists of the new Onslow Park & Ride facility.

Last Tuesday morning (November 19) as I was in the area I thought I would pay the site a visit.

True to say I found the path to the new site interesting as it wound itself back to what could be called the foot-hills of the Hog’s Back.

The park was nicely laid out with about four or five cars in situ and with a bus patiently waiting for new customers to ferry back passengers through the traffic congestion on their onwards journeys.

I appreciate that this is still early days , but I wondered if the prophesies that perhaps that this will not be a popular area for such a must needed facility with its £4 million price tag.

Without being churlish the name of Onslow Park and Ride it not strictly accurate for this designated area is not actually part of Onslow.

I sincerely hope that the parking system will be popular and that the motorists winding their way to it will not ask themselves, “Is my journey really necessary?”
