Letter: Borough Councillors Are Still Masters of Guildford’s Planning Destiny

The proposed nursery plot in Wanborough for which planning permission has been refused.

From Stephen Callender

parish councillor for Wanborough

In response to: It Is the Government That Is Responsible for Planning Law

Councillor Liz Hogger is right that Wanborough residents are delighted with last night’s Planning Committee refusal of the Tree Nursery and thank her for proposing the motion to reject the application.

However, just to make clear, this is not really about the residents but rather about the thousands of people who travel along the Hog’s Back each day.

We are fighting to protect the green belt, the AONB and the AGLV for all to appreciate and enjoy. The views from the A31 are stunning and it is those views we want to keep for future generations to admire.

What last night demonstrated is that whatever the constraints of the NPPF, borough councillors are still masters of Guildford’s planning destiny and the future look and feel of our Borough is in their hands.

Better a tree nursery than the hundreds of houses planned for Blackwell Farm.
