Letter: Councillor Was Unaware She Had Been Nominated For Community Centre Committee

Lib Dem borough councillor for Westborough

Why the Conservative group felt it necessary to have both places on the Park Barn Community Centre management committee is anyone’s guess.

Odd really, given that one of their councillors had no idea her name was being put forward, nor did she know she had secured a place until I mentioned it to her recently.

What does that tell you about how the Conservative group works, or doesn’t work?

They’ll tell you of course that they have a mandate, that they won more seats so it’s democratic.

Given that I received the most votes in Westborough ward you would have thought one of the places could have gone to me.

Cllrs Elizabeth Hooper and Sheila Kirkland (Con, Westborough) were elected at the last full council meeting (July 7). Cllr Hooper voted for Cllrs Kirkland and McShane but not herself, as she could have done. Cllr Kirkland was not present. Ed

The way the council is currently being run the rest of the councillors may as well stay at home and save on expenses. They are merely puppets on a string.

Isn’t it about time the Conservative councillors forgot party politics and exercise the only mandate they have which is to serve in the best interests of Guildford constituents.
