Letter: Director of Watts Gallery Is Leaving Enormous Boots To Fill

There were plenty of visitors at Watts gallery to enjoy free entry to the beautifully restored buildings.

Watts Gallery

From Fiona Curtis

Chairman Compton Parish Council

Perdita Hunt has been the driving force behind the rise of Watts Gallery, taking it from a leaking, cold, rather unappealing place to a comprehensive all round visitor experience, complete with walks, a variety of exhibitions, workshops, a wonderful chapel and of course the restoration of Limnerslease, the Watts’ home.

Success on this scale doesn’t come easily and whoever takes on this role next year will have some enormous boots to fill.

Working in a place like Watts Gallery and taking it from where it was to where it is now, requires the most incredible skill set, the list is almost endless. Developing a visitor experience of this scale, off a rural lane in a conservation village involves a lot of hard work, diplomacy and negotiation, sharing and getting buy-in of the vision and I am guessing, considerable tenacity.

I have no doubt that whatever Perdita does after July, it will succeed and I congratulate her on all that she has done and wish her well for the future.
