Cllr Richard Billington in “Transparency” debate

From David Roberts

In response to: So This Is ‘Representative Democracy’?

Our Executive councillors are analogue politicians in a digital age, as was shown clearly during the Monika Juneja scandal. Instead of addressing a straightforward issue of criminality high in their own ranks, the Tory group made hypocritical efforts to silence their public critics by invoking the need for decorum and civility, while darkly accusing them falsely of racism and slander.

Politics should be transparent, up-front and red in tooth and claw. The internet generation will stand for nothing less.

Councillors who think residents are a “rabble” to be fobbed off with the odd three-minute slot at a council meeting are past their political sell-by date and should get out now.

Not just “past their political sell-by date” but also, arrogant, pompous, discourteous and delusional about their capabilities. Key attributes for some who seek election though and no bars to preferment it would seem.
