We are all entitled to our views and opinions and Mr Morris, of the Peace Party, is entitled to express his, as he did in his letter We Should Ignore Armed Forces Day.
I don’t agree with him, I think he has got hold of the the wrong end of the stick.
We are blessed that we live in a civilised, generally safe and democratic society. Part of the reason that we do is that we have military services that, despite the reductions in staffing and budget over the past years, are the envy of the world.
Armed Forces Day/Veterans Day is a small way of thanking the men and women who serve, or have served in our military services for their efforts on our behalf. It is not a means of glorifying war or conflict.
Remember, every serviceman or servicewoman signs a personal cheque when they join up. The payee is the British public and the sum to be paid is “up to and including my life”.
I for one, thank each and every one of them from the bottom of my heart.

Very well said. The men and women of our armed forces past and present do a fantastic job. It was a huge pleasure to attend Armed Forces Day at Stoke Park in Guildford to speak with and witness the skills of our soldiers.
We need to leave the politics out of what is a day to show our appreciation and respect for all who serve their country.
