Letter: Independent Processing of Complaints Against Councillors Would be Fairer

In response to: ‘Strong Argument’ for Publishing Outcomes of Complaints Against GBC Councillors Says Committee Chair

When I complained, there were considerable delays in the process, and I had to chase up for a response more than once.

Having passed the initial test, and having submitted a ton of evidence, there was another long wait before they decided that the councillor concerned had not intended to cause offence. At no point was I told if anyone had been interviewed about the complaint or what investigations had been done.

I was expecting the decision to go against me because the appointment of GBC’s monitoring officer is under the control of the councillors and so can’t be truly impartial.

Independent handling of complaints by an outside party would be fairer and more transparent.
