Davis v Parker re museumFrom Paul Duggan

What a load of self congratulatory nonsense in Michael Bruton’s letter: We Owe Susan Parker A Debt of Gratitude.

Firstly why shouldn’t the Guildford Greenbelt Group (GGG) sit in the corner of the council chamber, someone has to and with only three seats out of 48 it seems only right that they shouldn’t sit in the middle.

Secondly, as I read it, she was invited to sit on a review board to consider the future of Guildford Museum but before even her first meeting (which she might have considered a good opportunity to learn about the whole story) she wrote a letter to The Dragon expressing her opinion.

She has kind of judged the case before learning the facts and of course this is going to upset the chairman, in this case Cllr Davis. Surely it would be better to find out about the subject first?

Finally, as I see it, Cllr Susan Parker is out to smear this council in any and every way she can. It seems that at every meeting she attends she is at odds with her fellow councillors over almost everything.

Only last week at a scrutiny meeting she tabled a motion to scrap the scrutiny report. Not one of the other 20 odd councillors present at the meeting would even second her ill-judged motion and this even included her fellow GGG councillor.

It is no wonder that her followers have picked up on this story as being another way of smearing the council but any right minded person understands that if you are invited onto a judging panel you should not go around campaigning one way or the other before your first meeting. Rotten Borough? I don’t think so. Rotten judgement more likely.

I would like to thank everyone for giving the museum issue some extra publicity. Visit the Guildford Heritage Forum website where you can leave comments or, better still, tell us about what type of museum and heritage service you would like. Visit http://www.guildfordheritageforum.co.uk

If Mr Duggan wants a load of self congratulatory nonsense here are some of the words of Cllr. Davis from an early August article, Councillor, Given Brief to ‘Sort Out’ The Museum:

“There are a number of other challenges current, which I am approaching with all due energy.”

Cllr Davis then leaves the subject of the museum to praise the work and capability of his fellow councillors and in particular the council leader, Stephen Mansbridge, before criticising The Guildford Dragon NEWS for “various critical articles”.

“While all this is going on, I have been heartily impressed by my fellow Executive members who are all capable, experienced, and very hard-working.

“Some (particularly on planning and infrastructure at the moment) give huge amounts of time and skill to their tasks.

“Directing all this, we have a most excellent leader in Stephen Mansbridge. He has a real grip of the current challenges, and constantly impresses me in his role as the GBC ambassador.

“Your [The Guildford Dragon’s] various critical articles are misplaced in my opinion, as they do not recognise the skills and determination in the Executive, and with our highly impressive leader.

    “Guildford should be very proud.”
