Letter: Stop Playing Blame Games

Conservative borough councillor for Worplesdon

In response to: ‘We Have the Wind in Our Sails’ Say Lib Dems But MP Says They’ve Put Guildford in the Doldrums

Instead of blaming previous administration Lib Dems should have focused on improving council finances in the last four years. They were not capable enough to run them because they had no idea what was going on.

It’s very important to make it clear who knew what, and when. If they knew about the shortfall in council finances before the election then they should say so, publicly.

They have got another four years now but it doesn’t look like they have learnt from previous mistakes. The North Street developer will get its way either by winning its appeal or getting its new application approved, because they have put the council between a rock and a hard place.

We Conservatives are willing to help them and work together for the betterment of Guildford but first they need to stop playing blame games.

I happen to agree with the argument put forward by Cllr Akhtar. This is not the first that I have heard from reliable sources that the Lib Dems are prone to passing on the blame game to anyone and everyone except themselves.

It was extraordinary seeing Ed Davey celebrating the recent by-election win in Frome & Somerton standing behind a propelled rocket celebrating as though they had just won a general election.

If this is the type of antics I am likely to see from the Liberal Democrats going into the next elections in 2024/25, I’m afraid they won’t be getting my vote, nor those of the wider electorate anytime soon.

If Sir Ed Davey reads this I hope he takes heed of my humble advice.
