Letter: Those on Guildford’s Housing Waiting List Are Those That Matter

Published on: 9 Oct, 2018

From Brian Creese

Spokesperson for Guildford Labour

In response to: Opposition Parties Welcome Announcement that Housing Borrowing Cap is to be Lifted

Any money borrowed would be to build social housing.

Currently, there are over 2,600 families on the council house waiting list and around 300 a year are placed. So if you are lucky you might get a house in ten year’s time. These are the figures that matter, not ONS projections for future private house building.

By the way, Labour regards ‘affordable’ as being 35% of prevailing values ie something that is actually affordable.
