In response to: National Trust Announce Funding Secured, At Last, for Weir Bridge Repair

Good news “at last” indeed.

Hopefully, the National Trust will keep us regularly updated on progress or on delays. Too many years have been lost awaiting this decision and it would be disappointing if the project disappears into the ether once again.

GBC planning department hopefully will pull out all the stops to assist in meeting the 2026 window for carrying out the works.

I hope the National Trust can also now focus on providing public access to the private fields fronting the River Wey and the Navigation immediately next to the council offices. This is a huge area hidden away in the heart of the town and benefiting very few indeed. It could be wonderful with public access.

Come on National Trust please meet your oft-stated ambition to end unequal access and bring more nature, beauty and heritage to where people live.
