From Jan Messinger
I’m sure heritage weekend has been it’s normal success.
Here in Worplesdon we have had many visitors to the Sidney Sime Gallery and St Mary’s church who have also told us about what else they have enjoyed, especially in Guildford town centre: the churches, the chained library at the Royal Grammar School, the medieval undercroft and Abbot’s Hospital seem to be popular as well as Guildford Castle, of course.
I think this shows us something about our historic town. How we need to promote it, open as much as possible and visit it. I’m hoping the businesses in Guildford have done well due to more visitors and beautiful weather this weekend in September.
We have seen so many major High Street stores closing and our independent traders struggling. We need to be reminded that our town has a wonderful history.
So get out and enjoy it and not just on a beautiful heritage weekend.
