I thought Dragon readers would be interested to see how local MPs have responded on the issue of the proposed expansion of Farnborough Airport, a planning application for which is currently being considered by Rushmoor Council.
When will Ms Richardson get off the fence and, hopefully, join other MPs who have objected?
Angela Richardson – Letter to The Guildford Dragon, January 3, 2024
Member of Parliament for Guildford
“…residents can be rightly assured of my close attention to any developments on this matter”
Jeremy Hunt – Letter to Rushmoor Council, February 19, 2024
Member of Parliament for South West Surrey
“I now write to OBJECT to the subsequent planning application submitted by Farnborough Airport Ltd on 6th November 2023 to Rushmoor Council… If approved , the proposed changes could have far-reaching implications for many who live under the flight paths and close to the airport.”
Michael Gove – E-mail to Rushmoor Council, December 12, 2023
Member of Parliament for Surrey Heath
“I am objecting to Farnborough Airport’s proposals, as I am concerned that any expansion will inevitably increase pollution and will also lead to the loss of quality of life, peace and amenity for my constituents who live under the flight path… I felt the business case for expansion of the airport was unconvincing. ”
Ranil Jayawardena – Letter to Rushmoor Council, December 15, 2023
Member of Parliament for North East Hampshire
“I recently invited my constituents who live under the Airport’s flightpath to share their views on the proposals with me – 86 per cent indicated that they do not support the Airport’s current plans to amend their operating conditions. I trust that the council will recognise the clear position above when reaching a decision.”
Damian Hinds – Letter to Rushmoor Council, December 15, 2023
Member of Parliament for East Hampshire
“I am writing to object to the above planning application submitted by Farnborough Airport. I have received much correspondence from residents living in the East Hampshire constituency, all opposed to any further expansion at the airport.”

It is traditional that MPs stay out of issues outside their patch. This airport expansion is “over the border”. Only in respect of the flight paths does it clip the Guildford constituency. It is debatable she should be involved unless the flight paths change.
Besides I believe she has enough on her plate with water shortages, sewage treatment, road collapses etc to deal with.
