Letter: Where Is the Enforcement of Pavement Repair Standards?

In response to: ‘Dangerous And Scary’ Pavements In Guildford Draw Widespread Criticism

It’s a great shame that Kier (SCC’s contractor responsible for highways work) didn’t have a representative present on the inspection tour, as it appears that quality control of repair work is seriously lacking.

Is that because Kier self-certifies the repairs? We certainly aren’t receiving value for money. Let nobody forget that the setts in the High Street were relaid at a cost of £1 million and yet SCC and GBC have permitted utility companies to dig them up and re-instate with a tarmac patch and another area with non-matching setts.

Weren’t we told that only emergency repairs would be permitted in the High Street and that it would have to be reinstated to original condition? Where is the enforcement?

Considering his recent Tweet about improving quality control and the good work of the Highways Team at SCC, it’s also disappointing that County Cllr Matt Furniss has not responded to The Dragon’s request for comment.
