Letter: I Have Yet To Meet a Single Soul in Guildford Who Supports This Development

In response to: Solum Comments On Its Appeal Success

What on earth is, “an enhanced station environment with an attractive new station plaza offering a high-quality public realm”? This description seems to be complete developers gobbledygook.

There is nothing remotely attractive about the proposed so-called station development. It is reminiscent of some of the buildings one can still see in parts of the former Soviet Union.

I have yet to meet a single soul in Guildford who supports this development and would be intrigued to know anyone who does.

This scheme is entirely without merit.

It really isn’t that bad, I think the proposed development looks modern and a damn sight better than what’s currently there.

Guildford needs housing. Many moan when the green belt is threatened and the same when building on brownfield sites. Guildford can’t win. Those complaining should stop whining and move with the times.

Hardly “whinging” are we? This is about protecting the valuable views and sights that attract people to Guildford, for example, the view of the castle lit up at night as you arrive via train. This will be lost.

Moving with the times is what occurred in the 60s when those hideous tower blocks were constructed on The Mount.
