Liberal Democrat councillors have been running street stalls around Guildford to let people know more about the Local Plan process and to explain how they can get involved.
The latest street stall was set up in Queen Elizabeth’s Park on Saturday (July 25). A press release stated: “We are committed to ensuring every voice is heard in the consultation process on the Draft Local Plan.”
At the stall Stoughton councillors Gill Harwood and Pauline Searle set out the plans for residents across Stoughton so that they could have the opportunity to discuss proposals and complete questionnaires to send back to Guildford Borough Council.
Cllr Pauline Searle commented: “We managed to speak to a large number of people, discussing the need for housing, and gathering their views on protecting the green belt and better infrastructure.
“We are urging everyone to respond to the plans, which set out the proposals for development in Guildford over the next fifteen years.”
The Lib Dems say that community action is even more important after the surprise resignation of planning manager Carol Humphrey, which provoked Lib Dem group leader Caroline Reeves to say: “…we appear to be facing a time of chaos just when crucial decision making and leadership is needed.”
The Liberal Democrats will be running more stalls across Guildford up until the end of the consultation. Details can be found on the Liberal Democrats facebook page and website.
