Guildford Lions Club hosteda successful golf day on September 13, raising funds for the Jigsaw Trust and the Lions’ own community fund.
Vic Quayle from the Lions club said: “Weren’t we the lucky ones! Apparently while other parts of Guildford had heavy showers Clandon Regis Golf Club bathed in glorious sunshine – well, it didn’t rain – and all the attendees had a great day!
“We are pleased to announce that the day resulting in a fantastic profit of £6,000. All of the profit is now going to Jigsaw, as the Lions has decided that its share could not go to a better cause.”
Mr Quayle added that the sponsor of the event, PW Mining International Ltd, is extremely pleased with the result for such a worthwhile cause.
Jigsaw is an independent school supporting autistic children and young adults aged four to 19 years. The proceeds of the day are to be used for toys, sensory equipment, sixth form outdoor equipment and defibrillators.
Mr Quayle said: “The day was attended by 68 very generous golfers, who fully participated in a raffle and auction, as well as the golf.
“Unfortunately nobody was lucky enough to win the £10,000 hole-in-one prize – but there’s always next year. The Lions and Jigsaw would like to thank all the attendees for their brilliant support.
“Thanks are also due to the various helpers who made the day possible, including the staff of Clandon Regis Golf Club, and the very generous donors of all the prizes, for golf, raffle and auction.
They winners were: individual winner Chris Stone (47 points), individual runner up Paul Gibbs (44 points, winning Team “The Best Team” (133 points).
There were also prizes for nearest the pin on four holes, nearest the pin in two shots on hole 10, and the longest drive on hole 15.
