To celebrate National Record Store day this Saturday (April 20), Ben’s Collector’s Records in Tunsgate, Guildford, is featuring some live music.

His shop is already crammed full of second-hand vinyl records and CDs, yet somehow space will be made for psychedelic folk-rock du0 Anthea Neads and Andy Prince. They will be performing there from 11am.

Anthea said: “I sing lead vocals and play guitar (and sometimes keys), and Andy plays amazing lead bass – lyrical, melodic bass lines – as well as Chapman Stick (a fascinating 10-stringed instrument played entirely by tapping).

“We spent last week in Cornwall recording our new album.

“We write our own material but are heavily influenced by 60s psychedelic rock, folk-rock and pop – think Jefferson Airplane meets Fairport Convention, Grateful Dead, the Moody Blues, Iron Butterfly, the Who and early Pink Floyd, along with quite a few other influences spanning the last 50 years of musical history!

“Andy has a really interesting track record, as he played bass in punk band Sham 69 from the mid-80s to the mid-90s. He’s also played in various other well-known bands over his 40-year music career, including Toyah Wilcox’s band.

“We were compiling his discography recently and found that he’s played on 27 releases to date, some on major labels.”

Record Store Day came into being in 2007 when over 700 independent stores in the USA came together to celebrate their unique culture.

The UK followed suit and 2013 will see the sixth celebration of the UK’s unique independent sector. This is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music.

Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists across the globe make special appearances and performances.

Festivities include performances, meet & greets with artists, DJ’s, in store quizzes and many other events
