Will your marrow measure up?

There can be photography, art and music competitions, but Loseley Park is offering children something more unusual – The Massive Marrow Competition!

It is the annual Loseley gardening contest for under 16s to encourage them to discover the joy of growing things themselves.

In previous years they’ve vied for growing the tallest sunflower and the biggest pumpkin, with fantastic results.

The deadline for entries is fast approaching –Wednesday, October 3. Loseley Park is keen to remind children who received entry forms, seeds and top tips on growing marrows at April’s Loseley Garden Show, that they need to get their photos and entry forms in now to have a chance of winning this eccentric competition.

Children who wish to post entries must remember to include:

  • A completed form signed by a parent.
  • A photo of their entry.
  • Weight of the marrow.
  • A sentence or two about why they enjoyed the Loseley Spring Garden Show.

Entries must be sent to: The Massive Marrow Competition, The Estate Office,Loseley Park, Guildford, Surrey GU3 1HS.

The prizes this year, as in the previous two competitions, are a set of junior gardening tools from Loseley Park’s shop and a season ticket for parents for the walled garden and grounds for next year.

More details of the competition and information about the house and gardens can be found here: www.loseleypark.co.uk/gardens
