police vestSurrey Police is appealing for witnesses after a man was robbed and assaulted in Guildford earlier this week.

The incident took place in Guildford Park Road at around 8.25pm on Monday,  September 21 when the victim, a man in his twenties, was approached by three men outside the back entrance to Guildford railway station.

The three men threatened the victim and told him to hand over any items of value before assaulting him.

The victim then ran down an alleyway to get away from the group of men before locking himself in the offices of a nearby taxi company to escape from them.

The victim suffered head injuries and suspected broken fingers during the attack.

Following the incident Surrey Police officers arrested a 26-year-old man from Guildford and a 24-year-old man from Chertsey on suspicion of robbery.

Both men were interviewed and released on bail until November 17 while the investigation continues.

Detective Constable Emily Clarke, said: “This was a nasty and wholly unprovoked attack where a group of three men have assaulted a man who was simply waiting to collect his girlfriend from the station.

“Fortunately the victim did not suffer any serious injuries as a result of the attack but he has understandably been left extremely shaken by this vicious assault.

“The robbery and attack happened in a busy area so I feel certain that local residents, pedestrians and commuters must have seen this incident taking place and I need them to get in contact with us.

“Although we have made several arrests in connection with the incident we still need witnesses to come forward to help us build up a picture of the circumstances surrounding the attack.

“I can assure Guildford residents that we are taking this matter extremely seriously and officers have carried out house to house enquiries and are reviewing local CCTV footage as part of the on-going investigation.”

Anyone who witnessed the robbery or with any information should call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference 45150085479, or call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
