A man was taken to hospital suffering from the effects of inhaling chemicals in the car park off the A25 at the Silent Pool today (Monday, January 25).

Surrey Police confirmed that a woman, who was also at the scene, was also taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. They were both treated at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford.

The police report that a cordon was set up at the car park in order to protect the immediate vicinity, but it has now been established that there is no risk to the public.

Earlier motorists were being warned to avoid that part of the A25 between Newlands Corner and Shere, but by this afternoon the road was filly open to traffic.

However, the car park remained  closed until clean-up procedures were completed and a vehicle was removed.
