A Guildford man has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving at Guildford Crown Court on Friday, October 4.
Steven Sparkes, 41, of Pound Hill, was handed three years in prison and disqualified from driving for six years and six months, after which he will have to complete an extended test.
The sentencing relates to an incident in July 2022 when Sparkes was driving at excessive speed in Compton and collided head on with another vehicle. The female driver was left with several broken bones, one of which required surgery.
Officers were able to ascertain from CCTV that Sparkes had been speeding and driving on the wrong side of the road and he was swiftly arrested and charged.
Investigating officer PC Pat Nixon said; “Sadly many road traffic collisions are entirely preventable, and we know that speeding is one of the leading contributory factors in collisions. Sparkes had little regard for the consequences his actions may have on other people using the roads and as a result a woman has suffered serious injuries through no fault of her own. It is right that he will now spend three years in prison.”
