The Marie Curie shop in Guildford has over the past weeks been transformed into the charity’s first designer boutique to open in the South East.
Since Thursday, August 2 the shop has begun stocking more luxurious brands including Karen Millen, Whistles, Dolce & Gabbana and many more. Two items chosen for the launch display were a pair of Joanna Lumley’s shoes and a dress made by British designer Amanda Wakeley.
Other charity shop organisations such as Oxfam and The British Red Cross also have a handful of designated designer boutiques, who specialise in selling donated designer brands.
Marie Curie is giving its shoppers the opportunity to purchase high quality at an affordable price to help raise vital funds for the charity.
The shop also allows customers to stay up to date with the services Marie Curie provides, such as its information and support line, and acts as an information hub to inform customers about upcoming fundraising campaigns or volunteering opportunities.
For Jacquis Wolley, Marie Curie’s retail director, the shop’s role as a communication link is of particular value. She wants, “the shop to be a place where people can not only come to pick up clothing, accessories and homeware items but also be a place where people can connect with the charity and learn more about how we care for people living with a terminal illness and their families.”
Since re-opening its doors to the Guildford public on Thursday Jaqcuis has enjoyed, “welcoming lots of new and returning customers to the shop“ and invites, “everyone in Guildford to come down and browse the fabulous collection of designer brands on offer“.
The shop is always looking for unused items that might be spare or volunteers that can give a couple of hours per week.
To find out more about the shop, making donations or volunteering call 01483 578083 or visit in-store – Marie Curie, 4 Eastgate Court, High street, Guildford GU1 3DE.
Marie Curie was formerly known as Marie Curie Cancer Care and claims to be UK’s leading charity for people with any terminal illness. The charity helps people by delivering expert hands-on care, emotional support, research and guidance.
The charity employs more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals, and with its nine hospices around the UK, is the largest provider of hospice beds outside the NHS.
