The Mayor of Guildford’s charity six-a-side football tournament was a thrilling day for everyone involved. Spectators were treated to over fifty games with eighteen teams competing in recreational and competitive categories.
Players showed exceptional skill and passion as they competed throughout the day.
The current Mayor of Guildford, Sallie Barker, and the former Mayor, Masuk Miah, who inspired the event, awarded the trophies.
The recreational cup winners were Arc House Sharks with Shah’s Secreto being the runners up.
The Mayor’s award for sportsmanship went to Shah’s Secreto.
Thanks to generous donations, sponsorship, team entry fees, the raffle and secret auction, the Mayor hopes to raise several thousand pounds. The money raised will help the Fountain Centre continue supporting cancer patients and their loved ones through a cancer diagnosis.
Cllr Barker said: “The feeling and ethos behind the tournament was amazing. There was a lovely atmosphere and community spirit throughout the day.
“Both Masuk and I have been delighted with the way the day went. We want to thank everyone who has helped behind the scenes to make the day such a success. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors, volunteers, and everyone who made this event possible.
“Our special thanks goes to the committee at Guildford City Boys and Girls FC for organising and running such a successful tournament, along with the Guildford Lions for their marshalling on the day.”
